Week 1 Throwing and Catching

K,1

Find something to throw and catch with at home.  It could be anything such as a soft ball, tennis ball, or rolled up sock.  Throw and catch the item 10 times in each different room in your home. Some changes you can make include:

Throw with right hand and catch

Throw with left hand and catch

Throw with 2 hands and catch

Throw and catch with left hand, right hand, both hands

2,3

Please check with an adult before starting.  Warm-up by throwing and catching a ball. Students can use a ball or balled up sock or rolled up shirt.  Students can also tie a knot in a towel and throw and catch it too. Find some soft things in your home (not breakable) such as a couch, chair, steps.  Use these items as targets. Throw the ball at these items, changing the distance from which you are throwing. As the student hits the target, take a step or 2 back and try again.  Students can also change hands they are throwing with. Throw with both left and right hands.

4,5

Students can find someone in their home to throw and catch with.  If possible, outdoor would give a better environment for the students.  Start close, after 5 successful catches, move back 1 step, space permitting.  Students can also change hands they are using to throw and change the way they are catching.

Week 2  Locomotor Movement

K,1

Practice skipping and galloping either in your yard or around your house or apartment.  Remember, skipping is switching legs (left, right, left, right). Galloping is not switching legs, whichever leg is in front, stays in front.

2,3

Practice different ways of moving around your yard, house, or apartment.  Some examples include skipping, galloping, hopping, walking, running, any other ways that come to mind.  Students can also pick an animal or vehicle and move around like that animal or vehicle.

4,5

Play a game of tag with a sibling or someone in your home.  As you are playing, change the way you are moving around. Another option is to help or teach another person in your home (sibling, parent) a movement skill such as skipping, galloping, hopping, sliding).

Week 3 Passing and Kicking

Please check with an adult before doing these lessons.  Please try and use a soft item to pass and kick.  A soft ball, rolled up socks, balled up t-shirt. If possible, an outdoor setting would provide a better environment.

K,1

Find something to dribble with your feet.  A ball, rolled up sock, balled up shirt, whatever will work for you.  Dribble is just moving the item around your yard or home.  Remember to tap, tap, tap the item and keep it close to your body.  Dribble the item around your yard or home.  Some variations might be:  left foot, right foot, switch feet.

2,3

Warmup by dribbling an item around your yard or home.  Keep the item close to your body.  Find something in your yard or home to use as a target.  Students can dribble the item through the legs of a chair or under a table.  Students can also use furniture such as a couch or recliner to lightly pass the item to.

4,5

Students can find someone to kick with.  Start close, after 5 successful passes, move back 2 steps.  Remember, stop the item before you pass it back.  Stopping can be done by using the inside of the foot or by using the bottom of the foot and placing it on the top of the item.  Students can switch feet and try both the left and right.  Students can pass the ball or item to a moving partner.
